Standing Out From the Crowd: Making a Video That Feels Like You

Put a hand over the logo on your latest video. Does it still feel like your company? A recognisable film comes from the way you tell the story, the people you show and the choices you make throughout the edit.

Put a hand over the logo on your latest company video. Have you still got a film that feels like you, or could it belong to almost anyone? It’s a useful little test. You shouldn’t need the end card to explain whose world we’ve been watching.

That doesn’t mean putting the brand colour over every frame. Your identity comes through in the people you choose to show, the way they speak and the details you pay attention to. The graphics help, but they need something to work with.

Shelves filled with colourful branded tins and vintage product packaging.

Colour, type and familiar details build recognition. The same thinking belongs in your film.

Find the bits that are actually yours

Start with how the business works. What do customers come to you for? What would a new member of staff notice? What do you care enough about to do differently? Those questions usually give you better material than a list of adjectives from a brand presentation.

Then show it. If your strength is the care you take with a product, let us see the decisions and the hands doing the work. If it’s your people, give them room to sound like themselves. A customer explaining a specific experience can tell us more than a voiceover announcing that you’re committed to excellence.

Choose a story small enough to tell properly. One project, a particular problem or a useful demonstration can give the viewer something to follow. Trying to include the entire company history, every service and the founder’s dog is ambitious for a sixty-second film.

Let the style follow the personality

A thoughtful, measured business can have a thoughtful, measured film. A playful brand can have a bit of fun. Both can be memorable. You don’t have to shout simply because the video will appear in a social feed.

Make deliberate choices about the framing, lighting and pace. Give your typography and colours a consistent role, and use motion where it helps. A transition should move the film along; it doesn’t need to demonstrate every effect in the software.

Listen to the film as well. Music and sound design contribute to its character, and the voice matters just as much. Would your company actually say the words in the script? If a line sounds awkward when someone reads it aloud, change it before the shoot.

Keep it recognisable wherever it goes

Plan where people will watch before you film. A website introduction may have space for an explanation, while a short social edit needs to get to the point sooner. Consider the crop and captions early, so the important details survive a small screen.

The versions can have different lengths and openings while sharing the same character. Keep the visual choices consistent, and make sure the person watching understands what you want them to do next.

Once the film is out, pay attention to the response. Answer questions and notice where people need more explanation. That gives you useful material for the next film, rather than sending you straight back to the same stock footage and another grand statement.

At Ace Media, we want to make films that feel at home with the business behind them. Bring us the brief and a few things that make your company yours. That’s a good place to start.
